Frequently Asked Questions

What can be done about my loose lower denture?

Dentists have several choices when it comes to repairing or fixing loose dentures. Your doctor can do a hard reline of your denture to fit your current anatomy, however this means you will go without your denture for a couple of days. If this option is not the proper choice a new denture can be made, however it also will take several visits to the dentist. The best alternative to a loose denture is dental implants. If you are interested in a permanent solution to missing teeth, please contact the dental staff at Mayatte Family Dentistry for more information.

What can be done to replace my missing teeth?

Several options are available for missing teeth that include dental implants, dentures and bridges. All are available depending on your personal preference and taste. Please search through our website for more information on these services.

How can cosmetic dentistry improve the appearance of my smile?

Cosmetic dentistry can give you that mega-watt white smile through several procedures. Mayatte Family Dentistry offers veneers which is a covering that fits over your teeth to cover cracks and chips, we offer crowns that can look like a real tooth once fitted onto your tooth and we also offer whitening products to give you that bright white smile. If you would like a cosmetic examination, just request it and our dentists will examine your smile, tooth position and tooth color.

How often should I have a dental cleaning?

At all of our cleaning appointments, we perform examinations to identify any disease processes such as decay and gingivitis. We also look for any structural issues with your teeth and conditions that cause pain or dysfunction in the mouth.

Why is it important to use dental floss?

Brushing our teeth removes food particles, plaque, and bacteria from all tooth surfaces, except in between the teeth. These areas are highly susceptible to decay and periodontal (gum) disease. Flossing cleans along the gum lines and in between the teeth as well as prevents plaque build-up which can damage the teeth, gums and even underlying bone.

How often should I brush and floss?

The American Dental Association recommends brushing your teeth at least twice a day and flossing once a day. This will prevent the buildup of harmful bacteria and plaque that can cause havoc on your teeth and gums.

What should I do if I have bad breath?

Bad breath is caused by odor-producing bacteria that grow in the mouth. When you don't brush and floss regularly, bacteria accumulate on the bits of food left in your mouth and between your teeth. If you're concerned about bad breath, make sure you're taking care of your teeth and mouth properly. Some sugar-free gums and mints can temporarily mask odors, too. If you brush and floss properly and visit your dentist for regular cleanings, but your bad breath persists, you may have a medical problem like sinusitis or gum disease.
